[to whomever is left to listen] and I thought that we could forget that we are giants, monsters with footsteps that bruise the tender flowerbeds down below we must realize that to sleep is not to wither in the decomposition of the soil we try so hard to forget was here before us, but to dream that this ground is not the barren dollhouse we have left it to be these cities are graveyards for the cost of construction, buildings tombstones for all that should have sprouted but was built instead, scraping the dreams from the sky like stars burning out and falling back to earth nothing grows here anymore our concrete sprawls

just returned (ish...coming up on 2 weeks ago) from QUEST: Quantitative Underwater Ecological Survey Techniques! an intensive scientific SCUBA diving course in Ke 'ei, South Kona, Hawaii. We camped on the beach and the surf came up and hit the tents. had to move: tents & dive sites. The sea roared and roared, through class and through the night. SO much to learn! experienced people, diving, academia (stats! that monster! i maybe should've taken stats before...) Just sailed with an amazing crew on a beautiful 134.5 ft brigantine schooner from Honolulu, HI to Sausalito, CA (near San Francisco: we passed under the Golden Gate with a full stack :)), in 4 weeks with the SEA program.  Carried out scientific research and wrote a paper on brand-new findings (my group had to change our topic last minute because no data was drifting by) no one has really looked at before.  Spent some time in Cali and flew back across the Pacific home to Maui. I can't really explain a thing.  Life's crazy and people are beautiful. I don't know where I'll go from here.  It was really tough saying goodbye to people I'd technical
